BARAKA (A WORLD BEYOND WORLDS)

The film Baraka was filmed in 1992 in 24 countries around the world, including, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Nepal, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Thailand, and Turkey. This film has no dialogue throughout the almost 2 hour film. This really lets the viewer soak up the scenary and maybe add their own dialogue. Baraka means blessing in several lannguages around the world. This was a great title for this film, because it shows us the true blessing it is to live in this wonderful world. This film shows the beauty of the country-side and the hustle and bustle of cities. My favorite part of the film was when the muslims visited Mecca and started to pray. I remember learining that part of the Muslim religion you must visit Mecca once in your life time, if you can afford it. Film producer Mark Magidson is currently filming Baraka's sequel Samsara.

Turtles/Tortugas

Turtles, just like humans come in all
shape and forms. Their are turtles and tortoises in the wild. The main difference between these two are that turtles live mostly in water and are more meat eaters, wheras the tortoise live on land and feed on vegetables. Turtles come out of the water occasionally to bask in the sun. This is good because if their always in the water their shell will rot. You can usually tell the difference between the two by just looking at them. Turtles have smoother shells with sharper claws and pointy snouts. A tortoise is usually a lot larger and slower, they also have shorter claws and rounded mouths good for chewing vegetables. (Photos: Jose Jimenez)

CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE!!

SUPERFUND

The Enviormental Protection Agencies (EPA) Superfund is a program created in the late 70's to cleanup abandoned hazardous waste sites.

According to EPA website

Superfund Works
It involves the steps taken to assess sites, place them on the National Priorities List
and establish and implement appropriate cleanup plans. This is the long-term cleanup process. In addition, the Agency has the authority to conduct removal actions where immediate action needs to be taken; to enforce against potentially responsible parties;
to ensure community involvment
; involve states;
and ensure long-term support

What Are We Really Eating???

Genetically modified foods are foods produced from genetically modified organisms that have had their DNA altered through genetic engineering. Genetically modified foods were first put on the market in the early 1990s. Over sixty percent of processed foods have been genetically altered. The most common modified foods are derived from plants like soybeans, corn, and wheat. Other common foods are genetically atlered from the animals they come from by hormones. Growth hormones produce lean non-fatty cattle and hogs. Bovine Somatotropin hormone increases the protein in cows for milk. Other hormones are also used to increase breeding rates. The negative highly outweigh the positives when it comes to genetically modifying our food. Not only are plants and animals being harm, but maybe we are to.

Common Foods that are genetically modified

Carbon Cycle

Carbon cycle is simple:
1) Carbon is already in oceans and sedimentary rocks
2) While carbon is in water, it forms into calcium carbonate
3) Corals and algae build up limestone reefs causing further respiration
4) On land plants convert carbon dioxide into carbohydrates
5) Then carbon is libertaed into atomosphere when plants die or are eaten

GreenPeace

  • GreenPeace is a global campaigning organization that acts to change attitudes and behavior, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace by:

    ~Catalysing an energy revolution to address the number one threat facing our planet: climate change.

  • ~Defending our oceans by challenging wasteful and destructive fishing, and creating a global network of marine reserves.

  • ~Protecting the world’s remaining ancient forests and the animal, plants and people that depend on them.

~Working for disarmament and peace by reducing dependence on finite resources and calling for the elimination of all nuclear weapons.

~Creating a toxic free future with safer alternatives to hazardous chemicals in today's products and manufacturing.

~Supporting sustainable agriculture by encouraging socially and ecologically responsible farming practices.

If I were to join an environmental organization it would definitely be the GreenPeace organization for several reasons. The first reason would be because they are a well established organization with a lot of support. GreenPeace is also very involved in protecting our oceans wildlife and coral reefs. This had a big effect on me because I recently started scuba diving and would hate to see our beautiful oceans wildlife die.

To help fight against Global Warming GreenPeace created Project Hot Seat which gave important information on how you can help raise awareness in your community.

The GreenPeace organization is so radical they even harass Japanese Whaling boats trying to stop them. (Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert)
