Genetically modified foods are foods produced from genetically modified organisms that have had their DNA altered through genetic engineering. Genetically modified foods were first put on the market in the early 1990s. Over sixty percent of processed foods have been genetically altered. The most common modified foods are derived from plants like soybeans, corn, and wheat. Other common foods are genetically atlered from the animals they come from by hormones. Growth hormones produce lean non-fatty cattle and hogs. Bovine Somatotropin hormone increases the protein in cows for milk. Other hormones are also used to increase breeding rates. The negative highly outweigh the positives when it comes to genetically modifying our food. Not only are plants and animals being harm, but maybe we are to.
